Passman’s European connection
Passman now equips more than one hotel room in three in France. Co-Founders Patrick Layani and Frédéric Levy and new Group Deputy CEO David Esseryk look back on the company’s journey and ahead to its European ambitions.
Secure high-speed Wi-Fi, interactive TV, digital signage, dedicated Chromecast: Passman designs a complete ecosystem of connected solutions for the accommodation sector (hotels, residences, healthcare, outdoor hospitality), backed by an in-house R&D department of more than 30 developers. The company posts over 70 million euros in turnover and employs 350 people. Its energy-efficiency solution PassEnergy, designed for the hospitality sector, has picked up several innovation and CSR awards.
“When we started out in 1995, our concern was always to meet our customers’ emerging needs with pragmatism,” recall Co-Founders Patrick Layani and Frédéric Levy. The journey combines organic growth, built on anticipating new technology uses, with tie-ups with Screen Services in Benelux, HTM in England and Osmozis in outdoor hospitality. “Each of these turning points was taken without ever losing sight of our original DNA: customer proximity, responsiveness and a culture of service.”
Group Deputy CEO David Esseryk spent years selecting technologies at Marriott and Accor. “There I learnt the demands of large-scale roll-outs, the critical need for flawless reliability and the importance of long-term support.” And today? “Having been in the buyer’s seat, I fully understand hoteliers’ constraints, doubts and expectations. That obliges us at Passman to design ever simpler, more robust and more relevant solutions, while listening with great humility to the realities on the ground.” Leaving consulting was a natural step: “The desire to act and to build day by day with teams is irreplaceable. I have known Passman for almost 30 years and have had the good fortune to follow its evolution and development closely over the decades.”
The course is now set for Portugal, Spain and Italy, “natural next steps where our solutions bring real added value”. The three leaders want to make Passman the European champion of connected services, pursuing both organic growth and an active external growth policy. “In this conquest, David’s role is central. He brings his experience of leading international organisations and his strategic vision. Together, we form a complementary team to see this European ambition through.”

Technology that fades into the background
Having spent years at Marriott and Accor before becoming Managing Director of Passman, David Esseryk sums up his view of digital in hotels: “Technology in hospitality only has value if it fades into the background, in favour of the guest experience and smooth operations for teams on the ground.”
