Natural oak and arched portals for the Italian pavilion

Interior architect Claudia Campone, CEO and founder of Thirtyone Design + Management, designs the ITA (Italian Trade Agency) pavilion in Hall 7.2 (Stand E058B), which brings together 17 Italian companies around a central Talk Area. On Monday, she opened the pavilion’s talks programme alongside Luigi Ferrelli, Director of the ITA Paris office, and designer Inga Sempé, for a session celebrating the agency’s centenary.

What was the brief for the Italian pavilion at EquipHotel 2026, and where did you start?
The brief from ITA was to design an institutional pavilion hosting 17 Italian companies specialized in high-end craftsmanship, furniture and decor. The goal was to create an international showcase for Italian savoir-faire that serves as a commercial and cultural platform. The project kicked off from the center: the Talk Area, a networking hub defined by elegant arched portals that pay homage to classic Italian architecture.

Natural oak runs through the whole scenography. Why that choice?
Natural oak wood is our signature material. Visually, it gives the entire pavilion a warm, welcoming and contemporary feel. Functionally, its tactile yet neutral finish serves as the perfect backdrop to bring out the colors, textures and details of the products showcased by the exhibitors.

How do you give 17 companies a shared identity within one space?
Material continuity via natural oak binds the 17 exhibition corners into a harmonious space. The central Talk Area acts as a shared visual anchor. Its outer facades feature exclusive graphics designed by our studio, conveying the iconic themes and genius loci of Italy, framing the single exhibitors within one strong national identity.

As an interior architect, what does a show like EquipHotel bring to your own practice?
EquipHotel is a prestigious stage that allows us to demonstrate how architecture can enhance both culture and commerce. It challenges our practice to synthesize diverse corporate identities into a single physical narrative.
